Volunteering

Volunteering at Mercy Hospital Overview

Every year, Mercy Hospital is delighted to partner with hundreds of volunteers that venture to India to serve the poor of Calcutta.  The volunteer program provides a wonderful opportunity for people to get involved in a very practical manner and employ their talents in ways that directly impact the poor -- particularly those treated at Mercy Hospital.

A volunteer’s specific skills sets and passions are paired with the current needs of the hospital.  Volunteer projects frequently address the areas of childcare, construction, medical services, administration, chaplaincy, and multimedia services.  Additionally, every volunteer’s trip includes a tour of the Buntains’ humanitarian work and visits to the School of Nursing, Missionaries of Charity (the Catholic order founded by Mother Teresa to serve the poor), a Mercy Clinic, or the Calcutta Blind School.  Regardless of the endeavor, every program is fun, challenging, and deeply impacts both the volunteer and those who benefit from their work.

Volunteers also have the option to go souvenir shopping in Calcutta or to the Sound and Lights show at the Victoria Memorial portraying the history of Calcutta.
