Blood Bank
Mercy Hospital’s renowned blood bank is able to sufficiently fulfill the needs of its patients in addition to patients in other hospitals around Calcutta. Its blood stores are received through donations and go through a rigorous examination process to test for HIV 1 and 2, hepatitis B and C, VDRI, and malaria. Blood that clears these tests is processed into three components: plasma (for hemophilia and leukemia patients), pac red cells (for thalassemia and leukemia patients), and platelet concentrate (for bleeding disorders).Clubs in Calcutta can organize group events to donate blood through Mercy Hospital’s blood bank. Doctors and nurses will bring equipment and refreshments to a location designated by the club in appreciation for the generous contributions of its volunteers and donors.
