College of Nursing

The nursing shortage in India is at a crisis level. India has 1.1 million nurses but needs 2.2 million. To help meet this need, we are planning on upgrading the diploma School of Nursing program to a four year Baccalaureate Degree. Work has been going on behind the scenes for several months. In May 2008, Professor Rheatte Solomon conducted meetings in Calcutta to assist in the development of the new curriculum and help coordinate a smooth transition between the two programs. The goal is to admit the first class in 2010.
Azusa Pacific University (APU) in California, USA and Northwest University in Washington, USA have expressed an interest in collaborating with the Calcutta Mercy College of Nursing in order to provide nursing students in both countries a cross cultural experience. The Calcutta Mercy Ministries leadership is looking into the possibility of providing online courses for the three campuses in the areas of research, community nursing, and topics of common interest.
